Overview of the Project:
This facility is one of the largest and most complex security installations of its kind in South Africa. The NPA incorporates the elite Scorpion unit and has formal ties with every national and international security organization that has any involvement in the security of the state.
For national security reasons, design and system details cannot be divulged. However the project complexity warrants its entry into the South African Association of Consulting Engineers Design Excellence Award.
With the client’s stringent design criteria, the installed system had to be a vendor independent system comprising commercial-off-the-shelf (cots) products. This involved a global search of suppliers and integrators who were the “best of breed” in their specific security fields and who could demonstrate that their operating systems met the open system criteria for successful integration into the security management system.
