Intelligent building management system for SAMHS
Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES) has been appointed by Ukhozi Consulting Engineers to assist them in the electronic systems design for an intelligent building management system, for the South African Military Health Services (SAMHS).
SAMHS is one of the four services of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and is the only one that does not have a combatant role. It is a combat support service that provides medical and general health support to the other SANDF services, ensuring a healthy military community. It also contributes to the development, establishment and maintenance of tertiary military health capabilities.
In addition to the electrical services layout drawings, EES is to prepare the tender documentation and guide the adjudication process for the project. It will then be involved again at the commissioning stage, which it will monitor and track according to the design specifications.
“The purpose of the intelligent building management system is to enable SAMHS to be in line with the modern trend to create buildings with an intelligent backbone and IT network”, explains Bradley Hemphilll, Managing Director of EES. “This intelligent infrastructure enables systems integration which can monitor and manage all services, such as water, air flow, telephony and security from a single point.”
Electrical monitoring will also enable SAMHS to pick up a potential fault in these systems and rectify it before it becomes a problem.
“The intelligent infrastructure will also reduce energy consumption,” Hemphill continues. “This will enable SAMHS to lower its overall operating costs.”
Once the installation has been completed, EES will test it to ensure implementation has been carried out according to specifications and that the intelligent building management system is functioning correctly. |
