Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES) has been awarded the contract to project manage the design co-ordination and implementation of all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services at the new integrated terminal at Cape Town International Airport.
This substantial contract - which involves 25 systems providing services to about 120 stakeholders - is up against the tight deadline of being completed before the Fifa World Cup in mid-2010.
Managing Director Bradley Hemphill says EES’s skills set and track record on mega projects was instrumental in the Airports Company of South Africa’s (ACSA) decision to contract the firm’s professional services.
“Our major challenge at the airport is that this will happen in a live, continuously operating environment without disruption of services to stakeholders, as any interruption would further aggravate the inconvenience of the current renovations.
“Managing the logistics of keeping stakeholders’ ICT systems operational while they move to new locations within the revamped airport is a particular challenge.”
Many of the airport’s stakeholders are government agencies that operate within stringent security systems, and managing the access and activities of various contractors and suppliers on their premises requires specialised skills and controls. |
