A relatively new system, that of ‘building commissioning’, is proving to be an effective strategy in reducing long-term energy usage and costs, and decreasing global warming emissions from buildings.

Behind the scenes of the ground-breaking Gautrain
On Tuesday 08 June, just three days before 2010 World Cup kick-off, the first Gautrain to transport paying customers pulled out of Sandton Station en route to OR Tambo International Airport. Integral to this accomplishment was the completion of the Gautrain Sandton Station, which was achieved in time for the World Cup due to tremendous effort made by all parties involved.
“This is a ground-breaking achievement and a landmark date for this impressive, public transport, rapid rail link project, a project that will benefit South Africans and international visitors to our country for decades to come,” says Bradley Hemphill, Managing Director of Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES).

Intelligent building management system for SAMHS
Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES) has been appointed by Ukhozi Consulting Engineers to assist them in the electronic systems design for an intelligent building management system, for the South African Military Health Services (SAMHS).
SAMHS is one of the four services of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and is the only one that does not have a combatant role. It is a combat support service that provides medical and general health support to the other SANDF services, ensuring a healthy military community. It also contributes to the development, establishment and maintenance of tertiary military health capabilities.

Groote Schuur gets new fire detection system
Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES) is soon to commence the project and construction management of the implementation of Phase Two of Groote Schuur Hospital’s fire detection system. They will again be representing Plantech Associates who are one of the main project consulting firms.
Groote Schuur is a large Government-funded teaching hospital world-renowned for its research and for being the hospital where the first heart transplant took place in 1967. Over 3663 staff care for more than 560 000 referrals and patient admissions each year.

Cape Town-based Electrical Engineering Solutions (EES) has been committed to and very active in the project management and system integration aspects of the Information Technology (IT) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) of two of the World Cup stadiums.
The two stadiums are Cape Town Stadium in Green Point and Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, both of which are now complete. Not only are these highly impressive sports infrastructures ready for kick-off come June, but they are also incredible icons which will leave a lasting legacy for generations of people to come.
