Intelligent Stadia Essential for Return on Investment PDF Print E-mail
Information Technology (IT) is throwing a lifeline to stadium owners who are under pressure to turn these vast, usually plainly functional, constructions into revenue generators.

"The 2010 FIFA World Cup is going to be a great South African showcase - not only for football - but for demonstrating the efficiency that IT, based on structured cabling systems for all services, brings to the profitability of building complexes such as stadia," says  Bradley Hemphill, Managing director of Electrical Engineering Solutions, an ISO 9000 accredited electrical and electronic engineering firm.

With billions of rands being invested in these structures owners need to be able to plan for maximum efficiency in their operation and maintenance. With intelligence built in, stadia can easily become multi-purpose venues, giving owners a choice of customers and a better chance of year-round use.

Unified Communications - Electrical Engineering Solutions Goes Live PDF Print E-mail
Practising what you preach is one of the leadership basics, and it's what Electrical Engineering Solutions has done to prove to clients the effectiveness of converging all methods of communications within the organisation.

From the beginning of May the firm's voice and data communications are fully integrated, enabling all its staff and contractors to be seamlessly in touch with each other and the outside world irrespective of where they are located and which device they are using.

Managing Director Bradley Hemphill says that, despite being a relatively small operation compared to its clients, the cost benefits of taking the plunge has been worth it.

"There is a misconception that installing such a system is expensive and difficult to cost justify and, for companies that need to replace existing multiple existing cabling systems for a single Internet Protocol (IP) backbone, there are costs involved. But they're going to have to upgrade those cabling systems sometime and the sooner they do this, the sooner they'll reap the productivity benefits it brings."

EES has implemented a virtual PABX system which enables any of the engineers or management staff in the field within South Africa or abroad to dial into it and have an immediate 'presence' on the office network. From their laptop computers they can access the firm's intranet and retrieve documents and read and send email messages.
