This facility is one of the largest and most complex security installations of its kind in South Africa. The NPA incorporates the elite Scorpion unit and has formal ties with every national and international security organization that has any involvement in thesecurity of the state.

For reasons of national security, design and systemdetails are not divulged. However the project complexity warrants its entry into the South African Association of Consulting Engineers Design Excellence Award.

Open Systems and Interoperability

A control room with ergonomically positioned CCTV monitor With the clients stringent design criteria, the installed system had to be a vendor independent system comprising commercial-of-the-shelf (cots) products. This involved a global search ofsuppliers and integrators who were the “best of breed” in their specific security fields and whocould demonstrate that their operating systems met the open system criteria for successful integration into the security management system.
